InBody measurement
The InBody 970 is a professional body composition analyser of the kind used by clinics and sports centres. In under a minute it measures how much muscle and fat you have – and, above all, where. Scales give you one number; InBody shows what is behind it. At RehaGym it is the foundation of nutrition counselling, initial diagnostics and progress tracking in the RE.CODE® programme.
How the measurement works
You stand barefoot on the foot electrodes and hold the hand electrodes. A weak, safe electrical current at eight frequencies passes through the body, and the device measures it separately in five segments – both arms, the trunk and both legs (the DSM-BIA method). The measurement takes under a minute, is painless and requires no undressing; we only recommend coming 2–3 hours after a meal, without prior intensive training and without metal accessories.
We go through the results sheet together: what the individual numbers mean, where there is room for improvement and what a realistic goal looks like. To track progress we recommend repeating the measurement every 2–4 weeks – changes in muscle mass and fat then show up sooner than scales would reveal them.
Who cannot be measured: people with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, and women in the first trimester of pregnancy. Metal implants can slightly distort the result – please tell us about them in advance.
What the InBody 970 measures
40 impedance measurements and 15 phase angles on a single results sheet. How much skeletal muscle you have in each arm, leg and the trunk – and whether the distribution is symmetrical. An imbalance between sides often corresponds to pain or old injuries and is a guide for the physiotherapist and the trainer.
Total fat percentage, its distribution by segment and the visceral (abdominal) fat area – an indicator more closely linked to metabolic and cardiovascular risk than weight alone.
Intracellular and extracellular water and their ratio. Helps reveal swelling, inflammation or overtraining and track recovery.
An indicator of cell quality and integrity, used in sports medicine and the longevity approach as one of the markers of "biological fitness".
Basal metabolic rate, bone mineral content, waist circumference and waist–hip ratio, degree of obesity, body cell mass. These values form the basis of the nutrition plan and energy intake settings.
Results are saved to your profile; with each further measurement you see the trend in muscle, fat and water over time.
