Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy helps people after acquired brain injury regain independence and confidence in everyday life. It focuses on the activities that matter to each person – from personal care and movement to work, interests and taking part in society. At RehaGym we work primarily with adults after stroke, traumatic brain injury and other neurological conditions.
What occupational therapy can help you with
Occupational therapy is a rehabilitation discipline whose goal is to maintain or restore the greatest possible independence. It uses activities that are ordinary and natural for the client and always takes into account their individuality and the environment they live in. The client takes an active part in therapy and helps set its goals.
- practising everyday activities – dressing, personal hygiene, preparing food, using a phone
- developing fine and gross motor skills, coordination and grip
- training attention, memory, orientation and other cognitive functions
- developing communication and social skills
- recommending and practising the use of assistive devices
- advice on adapting the home and work environment, ergonomics
- support for carers and family members
How we work together
Four steps from the first consultation to a more independent everyday life.One-off, 60–90 minutes. A structured conversation about your medical history, difficulties and needs. The outcome is a proposed occupational therapy plan.
60 or 90 minutes. Assessment of independence (Barthel index), muscle testing, joint mobility, mobility, sensation, grip, cognitive functions (memory, attention, orientation, planning), COPM and pain assessment. Based on the results we create a short-term and long-term plan that respects your habits, roles and the environment you live in.
60 minutes, frequency according to your possibilities. Practising everyday activities, fine and gross motor skills, hand–eye coordination, graphomotor skills, balance, training of perceptual and cognitive functions, communication and social skills, back school.
At the clinic or in your home, 60–90 minutes. Choosing, funding and practising the use of assistive devices, adapting the home and work environment, ergonomics of activities and support for carers.
Who occupational therapy at RehaGym is for
Our target group is adults of working age after acquired brain injury – after traumatic brain injury, after stroke or after other conditions that have damaged the brain (tumours, inflammatory diseases). Occupational therapy is also an integral part of the RE.LIFE programme, where it is followed by neurorehabilitation, training in a barrier-free gym, massage, psychotherapy and nutrition counselling.
The areas an occupational therapist works in: motor functions (gross and fine motor skills, graphomotor skills), sensory functions (perception of touch, heat, cold, pain, limb position), cognitive, communication and social functions, activities of daily living, assistive devices, pre-vocational rehabilitation and prevention – workplace ergonomics for the general population too.
Occupational therapy is led by Mgr. Danuše Hrbáčková. The goal is not just to improve individual skills, but to return to the activities and roles that give life meaning.
